Lemon or Lemonade?
2 Dec 2023
There’s a saying that goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” But life also throws moments at you when you’re confused — is it a lemon or a lemonade?
I really enjoy going to concerts, and this whole year of 2023, I hadn’t been to a single one.
Inspired by a conversation and a short Sunday trip with friends, I finally decided to tackle two things I’d been procrastinating on: planning a trip during the Diwali week and booking tickets to a concert I was eager to attend. Unfortunately, due to an accident, I had to cancel my Diwali trip to Chennai-Pondicherry just two days before I was about to leave.
I had also booked tickets to a Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike concert in Hyderabad. They were on an India tour with shows in multiple cities. Booked everything a month before the show on November 24th and I was very excited. However, a week after booking my tickets, I couldn’t find them for sale on Bookmyshow. I dropped them a message, only to find out that the show had been canceled due to some elections. I was disappointed, especially since Kygo, the DJ, was also doing a show in Mumbai, but I couldn’t plan a trip there either. Two shows, both missed. Not to forget the canceled Diwali trip, leaving me grumpily at home during the festival.
Fast forward to Khasdar Mahotsav, and there was a massive buzz in Nagpur with many great shows lined up, that were well-organized and free.
On November 23rd, a friend asked for some company for a concert, and he had passes. I decided to go along with him. This was on November 24th, the same time and day as the original DVLM concert for which I had booked tickets!
Who would have imagined I would get to attend a free concert in my city, just an 8-minute drive from my home, at a ground next to my school where we had our PT classes and sports growing up? I spent all my first-year summer holidays playing basketball there with my school friends!
The concert was fantastic, surrounded by friends, and I even bumped into some folks I knew. Life is interesting at times!
